On March 29, Grade 8 students at Woodville Elementary School organized their first-ever Math Career Fair as a way to connect deeply with industry professionals. The class was so excited they invited the Grades 6 and 7 students to participate in the conversation too.
The event brought City of Kawartha Lakes businesses and organizations within the skilled trades, manufacturing, environmental, technology, and digital media industries together to teach students about career opportunities within their area of expertise. It was also an opportunity for students to learn about how the math they are currently learning in school is applied in the workplace through experiential education.
Participating businesses included Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue, Fleming College, Batty Fine Carpentry, Sunrise Graphic Design, 91.9 BOB-FM, Kawartha Conservation, Ontario Clean Water Agency, Caressant Care Nursing Home, Kawartha Credit Union, D&B Accounting Solutions, Future Plus Professional Services Inc., Lindsay Buick GMC/Lindsay Kia, Trillium Lakelands District School Board, Clarke Brothers Aluminum, and Netmechanics.
