Fenelon Falls Secondary School hosted an interschool social for the Best Buddies program this week. Two other schools participated for the day; including I.E. Weldon Secondary School and Bobcaygeon Public School. It was the first time that all three schools got together for the program, which was registered as a Canadian charity in 1993. Plans are already in place for the other two schools to host later this year.
The Best Buddies Program strives to make every school and community across Canada more inclusive and accepting of people with intellectual disabilities. This program pairs students with their peers who have intellectual and development disabilities to cultivate friendships.
There wasn’t a shortage of fun activities happening Fenelon Falls Secondary school, with the day starting with ice breaker activities. From there, students could branch out and choose from activities like Wii dancing, playing Rockband, watching movies, ice skating at the local community centre, cookie decorating and more.
