TLDSB receives funding to purchase Honey Harbour Public School building

Accommodation reviews took place in 2017 for both the public and Catholic elementary schools in Honey Harbour. While the Catholic school closed, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) voted to keep the two-classroom Honey Harbour Public School open.

School board administration worked with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board to negotiate an opportunity for Honey Harbour Public School students and staff to move into the former Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Elementary School.

TLDSB is pleased to announce that the Government of Ontario, through the Ministry of Education, have provided the funding for the purchase of their building. Students and staff will now have a permanent location with much needed additional classrooms.

“During the accommodation review process, trustees listened to the school community and agreed that educational supports could be enhanced for students with more than two rooms in a school,” said Louise Clodd, local Trustee and Chair of the Board. “I’m happy that we could make it happen and will now have ownership.”

Board officials continue to work with the local municipal government on potential partnership opportunities within the multi-room building.
