TLDSB Math Olympics challenges students in art, coding, trades, and Indigenous culture

On June 4, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) hosted the Intermediate Math Olympics at the Muskoka Education Centre.

Seven schools, 10 teams, and 40 intermediate students from Muskoka and Haliburton schools competed in math challenges, which required students to use their math knowledge in areas of art, coding, trades, and Indigenous culture.

The main event wrapped up with a timed relay challenge. The first place team was from Huntsville Public School, and second and third place teams were from JD Hodgson Elementary School. The coveted TLDSB Math Olympic trophy will reside at Huntsville PS until next year.

This year’s organizing team consisted of curriculum consultants that brought opportunities for students to see math outside of ‘the regular math class’ and in the context of other subjects, future job options, and culture.
