Three TLDSB schools compete for the Elementary Best in character animation competition

The Elementary Best in Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) character animation competition took place on February 28 at Central Senior School, Huntsville Public School, and Monck Public School.

Teams of four Grade 7 and 8 students were given three and a half hours to create a storyboard and then digitally animate their story using Adobe Animate, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Paint programs. Each team took a different approach based on the topic “An Unexpected Hero.” Some teams used a stylus and drawing pads, others used the mouse and keyboard, demonstrating solid teamwork and collaboration as plot, characters, and setting details were developed.

The team from Huntsville PS submitted the winning animation of a boy threatened by a pack of wolves. When the alpha wolf prepares to attack, the boy is unexpectedly snatched by Gerald, a saviour wolf who rescues the boy from harm. The team will now move on to represent TLDSB at the Skills Ontario Grade 7 and 8 Character Animation Provincial Competition taking place on May 6 in Toronto.
