Students Race Their Cardboard Boats in Muskoka

On April 29, 2015,  TLDSB schools participated in a Cardboard Boat Race Competition held at the Bracebridge Sports Complex. Teams were made up of four students, and were a mix of grade 8’s. The competition involved designing, building and floating the boats – all within three hours. If that wasn’t hard enough, students were only supplied with two sheets of cardboard, 1 roll of duct tape, 1 small can of non-toxic contact cement, and 1 paint brush to apply it.

In the morning, teams of four students began constructing their boats.  After lunch, they launched them in the water. Some made it across, and some faced sink or swim situations. Overall, Ridgewood Public School took home the trophy – AGAIN! The team previously competed at the CKL Cardboard Boat races and this time the team showed it was no fluke – their creative minds produced an impenetrable cardboard boat! Congratulations ladies!

Final results are as follows:

  1. Ridgewood PS
  2. Riverside PS
  3. Glen Orchard PS
  4. Monsignor Lee Catholic School
  5. KP Manson PS
