On November 13, student leaders from each of the seven secondary schools within Trillium Lakelands District School Board joined their 2019-2020 G7 Student Senate representatives at the 2019 Student Leadership Conference.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to address focus areas for their schools to tackle in the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Areas discussed included increasing school participation, mental health and awareness, inclusion, climate change, and more resources for students struggling.
Students also had the opportunity to hear three secondary school teachers give inspiring “Ed” Talks (modelled on the popular Ted Talk) addressing three 21st century competencies including entrepreneurship, critical thinking and problem solving, and communication.
Schools will present the work they have accomplished in their topic areas at a follow up conference taking place in the spring.
The G7 Student Senate is a group of students made up of one representative from each secondary school elected by their peers to help communication between students and bring student issues to the Board of Trustees.
