School Board and secondary teachers come to an agreement

June 28, 2016

LINDSAY, ON – A new contract between Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) and its secondary teachers represented by the Ontario Secondary Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) has officially been ratified. Both parties are pleased to have an agreement in place that will ensure it will be business as usual when students return to TLDSB schools in the fall.

OSSTF District 15 president Colin Matthew applauded the foresight of those in senior management who facilitated the bargaining of a fair deal. Matthew stated, “We are pleased that our members can begin planning for the fall knowing that they have a new contract in place.”

A central agreement was reached between the provincial OSSTF and the government earlier this year. Under the new bargaining legislation, the School Boards’ Collective Bargaining Act, a local agreement must also be negotiated on local conditions.

“It is very encouraging to have come to an agreement with our secondary teachers before the end of this school year,” stated TLDSB Board Chair Louise Clodd, “We’re looking forward to working together on a smooth opening to the 2016-2017 school year.”

A tentative agreement was ratified by TLDSB at a special meeting of the board on Friday, June 24th. Local secondary teachers ratified the agreement on June 28, 2016.
