Guiding the Way

What is the First Nation, Métis & Inuit (FNMI) Education Policy?

This commitment includes the implementation of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework, which was released in 2007. We will be working to support success for Indigenous learners by increasing awareness of the learning styles of Indigenous students, and increasing understanding of First Nation, Métis and Inuit cultures, histories, and perspectives.

The framework also aims to help all students in Ontario understand and appreciate contemporary and traditional First Nation, Métis and Inuit traditions, cultures, and perspectives.

What is Trillium Lakelands doing to implement this initiative?

The Guiding the Way campaign and philosophy has been the Board’s way of promoting both Indigenous education and voluntary self-identification throughout the district. We also have a voluntary self-identification brochure that is available to all students and families. Download it here: First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Education Information. One page version available here.
