Introduction to Skilled Trades & Technology Career Pathways
Elementary students will be supported in growing their awareness of the incredible opportunities available to them in the skilled trades. Opportunities are constantly emerging and will be offered to schools and individual students as they become available.
Benefit to students
The Ontario Skilled Trades Alliance projects that 65 per cent of the current population of elementary school students will end up in careers that don’t yet exist. Current employment sector data indicates that 40 per cent of new jobs will be in the skilled trades and technology There are many more workers in the areas of the skilled trades retiring than there are entering the workforce in the next two decades. Since hourly earnings are six per cent higher in the skilled trades occupations than non-trades occupations, pursuing a career in one of the 156 skilled trades in Ontario is a solid pathway choice.
