Ryder Lytle, a Grade 10 student at Fenelon Falls Secondary School, will be the new student trustee for Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) for a two year term from August 2020 to June 2022.
Ryder’s speech to make his case for the student trustee position, presented to the G7 Student Senate in April, revolved around leadership and equality. He expressed the importance of encouraging others by saying if one person makes the difficult choice of being the first person to stand up and say something, others will follow in their footsteps to do what’s right.
With Ryder’s new position as a student trustee, he hopes to highlight diversity in the school board. As a member of the LGBTQ community and a minority, he looks forward to emphasizing the importance of equality and inclusion in TLDSB schools.
A diligent student, Ryder looks forward to using his multitasking skills to uphold his responsibilities as a student trustee and as a secondary school student. Public speaking skills is something he hopes to improve to go along with his time management skills.
In addition to having personal goals, Ryder hopes to achieve a better outcome for high school experiences for students at his school. His goal is to create the best and most memorable experience so that students graduate from the system with a positive impact.
Ryder will be working alongside Kaylee Kelly who began her role in 2019 as the first student trustee to hold the position for two years.
The G7 Student Senate is a group of students made up of one representative from each secondary school elected by their peers to help communication between students and bring student issues to the Board of Trustees.
