A Message from John

I was first elected as TLDSB Trustee in 2010. I currently have the pleasure of serving as the Trustee in Wards 2 and 3 within the City of Kawartha Lakes. During that time I served as vice-chair of Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB)for 22 months. As your Trustee it is my commitment to work daily for the success of our students, staff, and our board. It is my job as your Trustee to ensure that TLDSB offers every opportunity to all children so that they might feel confident and capable in pursuing their life’s ambitions. I have grandchildren who live within our board, therefore, I have a vested interest in how well our board performs in educating students. George Bernard Shaw once said, “What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge in pursuit of the child.”

Prior to retirement John had a successful career with Bell Canada for 28 years (23 of which were in management). While at Bell Canada John held positions of Internal Auditor as well as the Associate Director of Industrial Relations. After retiring John was elected as a councillor with Somerville Township in 1997 and was head of the finance committee as well as serving on other committees while on this council. He is a former licensed in-car and in-classroom driver educator and school bus driver.  As a school trustee with TLDSB, it is John’s pleasure to sit on several committees. Committees he currently attends as trustee are:

  • Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
  • Healthy Schools Advisory Committee
  • Audit Committee
  • other committees open to all trustees

John has attended several conferences where he has networked with other trustees, and educators within the province. However, John finds the most rewarding part of the job is the ability to interact with students of all ages. These are the people he learns from.
