Administrative report

TLDSB Learning@Home update

The school board is now up to 400 families receiving printed learning materials, which are delivered weekly to homes to support TLDSB Learning@Home.

Planning is now taking place to allow students to retrieve personal belongings. These plans will be finalized and shared with principals this week so that the orderly and safe retrieval of items from schools can take place, beginning the week of June 1. The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) plan for retrieval of belongings is currently being reviewed by local public health, and is in step with provincial plans.

Teachers are now permitted on a voluntary basis to instruct from their classrooms using strict protocols approved by public health. This is an option for teachers who are finding teaching from home difficult due to their own circumstances.

The Board continues to await assessment and evaluation clarification from the Ministry of Education, and are optimistic there will be information coming forward this week.

Schools will be communicating with families this week about graduation plans. There will not be proms this year, however, each school has determined how graduates will be honoured and celebrated safely.

Last week, the Board provided Grade 7 to 12 students the opportunity, using a platform called ThoughtExchange, to share their thoughts in answering the following question: “What are the most important things we can do to better support your learning and well-being during this time?” 1,300 students participated in the exchange, and the resulting primary item of concern is around workload for students, as well as a need for alignment of communication. The information received from students will be very useful to the board and to schools as we continue to make improvements to the new way of teaching and learning at home.

Updates to both the COVID-19 and TLDSB Learning@Home pages are being made regularly.

2020-2021 Budget Review

There are no current updates on the Grants for Student Needs (GSN). A draft expense budget for the Board has been developed, but as we do not have revenue information from the Ministry of Education, a full budget cannot be shared with Trustees at this time. This is due to the Ministry’s attention on school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected that leeway for timelines for the presentation of a budget will be provided by the Ministry following the sharing of the GSNs.

Policies and procedures

The following policies were approved by Trustees:

  • ES-5000 Volunteers in Trillium Lakelands DSB
  • ES-5010 Textbooks and Supplementary Learning Resources
  • HR-4040 Staff Performance Appraisals
  • BU-3100 Facility Partnerships
  • BU-3025 Transportation Policy

Appointments and Celebrations

Administrative Changes

It has been determined that due to the school closures, it is not an appropriate time to change administrators in schools, so placements shared with trustees relate to administrator retirements and resignations and are effective June 30, 2021:

  • Jacqueline Schryer-Zak, Vice Principal at Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute
  • Charlene Chapman, Vice Principal at Leslie Frost Public School
  • Erin Hills, Vice Principal Bracebridge Public  School
  • Dianna Petrie, Principal Watt Public School
