GSA Conference welcomed LGBTQ2S+ students and their allies

On May 17, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) hosted “OUT LOUD!”, the eighth annual Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Conference.

Over 165 students from Grades 7 to 12 travelled from all corners of the board to attend the event that took place at Camp Onondaga in Minden Hills. Throughout the day, students participated in various indoor and outdoor workshops, including GSA outreach, dance with pride, LGBTQ2SI+ media, queer writing, archery, high ropes, and wall climbing.

The event shared the date with International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, which allowed LGBTQ2S+ students to be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment.

“You are living your truth. You are engaged in social justice,” said Keynote Speaker and TLDSB Pathways Consultant Clare McLean-Wilson. “Thank you for being yourselves, thank you for being allies for each other, and leave here refreshed and recharged to keep pushing boundaries.”

Muskoka Pride, Kawartha Lakes Pride, Peterborough Aids Resource Network (PARN), and Gender Journeys were all present throughout the day.
