For the past 12 years, Gravenhurst High School (GHS) students have participated in the international project to fight hunger, Empty Bowls.
The annual event, which took place on October 24 at GHS, was organized in partnership with the Gravenhurst Lions Club and Gravenhurst Rotary Club to help end homelessness and reduce the impact of poverty.
This year, 225 bowls were created and donated by local potters and students, who then glaze fired all of the bowls.
The whole Gravenhurst community was invited to the event to enjoy a homemade meal of soup and bread made by GHS hospitality and tourism students. GHS music students were also in attendance and performed for guests as they enjoyed their meal and took part in a silent auction. All guests left the event with their ‘empty bowl’.
All proceeds from the initiative goes to Gravenhurst Against Poverty, Supper Club, and the Salvation Army to help community members who are or have experienced homelessness.
