Lights, camera, action!
Glen Orchard Public School students became stars as they performed a Beauty and the Beast play the week of May 13
The entire school of about 160 students, ranging from JK to Grade 8, worked alongside a performing arts company, where they were casted for roles, learned their lines, became immersed in character, and reviewed the various scenes during the three days of rehearsals.
Culminating all they learned in rehearsals, students put on a final performance on May 17 to a packed gym of parents and staff.
The play, directed by Hub Productions, gave students an authentic experience on what it’s like to be a part of a full play production. Students had the opportunity to collaborate, dress in costume, and perform in front of a live audience.
The week-long event, which encompasses many curriculum expectations including dance, music, drama, literacy, and arts, gave students the opportunity to engage in dramatic arts, some for the first time.
Last year, students presented the Lion King, and just like the previous play, this year’s performance was a huge success with many laughs and smiles from students, staff, and parents alike.
