Glass installation of inclusion and equity at Monck Public School

On June 18, Grade 6 students at Monck Public School unveiled their year-long glass installation project.

Lead by glass artist Bonnie Thompson, and funded by the Ontario Arts Council, the students began this project by talking about permanent art and the legacy they can leave behind in their community. The students had an open discussion about the rights and responsibilities of children and decided that the theme of their mosaic would be inclusion and equity.

“While doing this art I think everyone got to express how they felt about children’s rights. We are so proud of it,” said one Grade 6 student.

With the help of Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School, they were able to create the glass mosaic themselves, and the tech class was able to build the beautiful framework to showcase their art.

This project was a great way to celebrate the students’ hearts and what they want to relay to their community.
