LINDSAY, ON – The Trillium Lakelands District School Board student trustee for the 2014-2015 school year is Brigid Goulem from IE Weldon Secondary School. Brigid was elected by incoming and outgoing G7 Student Senate members at the G7 Student Leadership Conference on April 25, 2014.
“I was excited when I heard that I was elected student trustee,” Brigid told us. “This is a big job and the other candidates were all great students as well. I am looking forward to getting started, and I know I will make a great trustee!”
Brigid is the head delegate of her school model UN group. She is also a part of her school student council and has been a big part of organizing events and dances at the school. Upon graduating, Brigid hopes to go to university, studying economics or law.
“I am so pleased that the G7 students can work together to create a better school environment,” stated Larry Hope, Director of Education. “It’s important to have a student perspective at our board meetings, and I look forward to working with Brigid in the upcoming year.”
“I am happy to welcome Brigid to the board table.” said TLDSB chair, Louise Clodd. “The G7 student senate is a wonderful way for students to get involved in their own education by engaging their peers to share ideas about their school culture.”
The G7 Student Senate is comprised of one student elected from each TLDSB secondary school. The team meets regularly to discuss issues, challenges, and achievements at each of the schools. The student trustee then compiles all information and brings a student perspective to school board meetings and to the Ontario Student Trustee Association (OSTA-AECO).
