Students from Fenelon Falls Secondary School (FFSS) recently completed a new pilot project, OPP Insight into Policing Experiential Learning.
The initiative, which kicked off at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year is a partnership with Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and provided 26 FFSS Grade 9 to 12 students interested in policing as a career hands-on experience and insight into the field.
The program was delivered over four weeks, and was divided into four sessions focussing on various aspects of policing, including crime scene investigation, specialty units, and the arrest process.
At the end of the program, students visited the Kawartha Lakes OPP detachment in Lindsay, and were recognized at a ceremony and presented with a certificate from Detachment Commander Inspector Tim Tatchell. The students were also given a tour of the detachment, visited the local court house, and had a demonstration conducted by the OPP Offender Transport Unit.
