Peaceful Bodies

A peaceful body is a key element in the development of the whole child and enables students to achieve success in all that they undertake. Initiatives such as Addiction Awareness, Healthy Active Living, and Nutrition support students by providing strategies and skills that can assist them in the lifelong development of a peaceful body.

Addiction comes in two forms: psychological dependence and physical dependence. Psychological dependence occurs when a a person feels that they need a particular substance in order to function properly, to feel comfortable, or even just to cope with day-to-day life. Physical dependence happens when the body becomes tolerant to the presence of the addictive substance and requires more and more of that drug in order to maintain the same effect.

Few people who suffer from addiction receive the treatment they need, often because of the stigma that surrounds addiction itself. Through public education, we can help people understand that addiction is a treatable illness, not a moral failure. By raising awareness, we can help save lives.

Well-being

Trillium Lakelands District School Board believes that good food, daily physical activity and a healthy environment that supports learning and growth are vital to helping students reach their full potential. We are committed to making our schools healthier places for students to learn and grow in.

Regular physical activity is essential for students to promote healthy growth and development. For adults, it allows easier accomplishment of daily tasks, more comfort and less fatigue. Healthy living also means healthy eating. A well-balanced diet is an important factor in good health and success in school.
