Breaking down barriers facing individuals with disabilities

On November 27, 30 students, including students from the TLDSB Practical Academics and Life Skills (PALS) program at Gravenhurst High School, Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School, and Huntsville High School participated in a Program Enhancement event, hosted by The Disability Channel. This television station produces and broadcasts content for persons with disabilities.

The day-long event focused on discussing how to break down barriers facing individuals with disabilities, and the opportunities available through mainstream media. Throughout the day students heard personal stories from people in the field, and received hands-on experience creating, hosting, filming, and editing a video segment.

The PALS program is available to TLDSB students with identified disabilities, providing them with functional and purposeful skills that will support success.
