High Expectations

A note from the Director of  Education and Chair of the Board

We are pleased to share with you highlights from 2018 in Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB). This includes the last half of the 2017-2018 school year and the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. We have chosen this year to promote high expectations for all members of our school communities – our students, our staff, and our parents/guardians.

TLDSB promotes innovation and collaboration for all. You will find in these pages multiple examples of opportunities provided to both staff and students to experience new and innovative learning tools and methods.

Supporting the well-being of all means our staff work diligently to ensure we have safe and accepting school environments. We surveyed parents, students, and staff to find out about student engagement, well-being, classroom climate, and other factors known to affect learning outcomes. We had tremendous response and our schools have spent much of 2018 examining results and using the data received to help with school improvement planning. We have high expectations around the safety and well-being of our students at school.

We value the strength of everyone’s voice. It is through opportunities to meet with students, with staff, with parents, and with our community partners that we discovered a need to raise the expectations bar. Hearing what members of our school communities have to say is a key component of our strategic planning each year.

It’s always wonderful to see our children achieve and do well. It is our shared responsibility to always set high expectations of our young people and one another, and to clearly communicate those expectations.  As a system, TLDSB will continue to strive for clarity and we will endeavour, alongside parents and caregivers, to make sure our students grow and flourish in an environment where they are expected to give their very best.
