On November 8, the Honourable Laurie Scott, local MPP and Minister of Labour, visited Fenelon Falls Secondary School (FFSS) to learn more about skilled trade opportunities available to Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) students.
Joined by Director of Education Larry Hope and local trustees, honourable Laurie Scott spent time in construction, automotive, manufacturing, and hospitality classrooms at the school. Scott learned about enrollment in these programs, the worked involved, and career opportunities available within the industry.
In TLDSB there are multiple opportunities for students to be prepared for their post secondary experience. Students can participate in skilled trades competitions; enrol in dual credit partnerships with local colleges; register for Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) options to begin work on apprenticeships; as well as register for Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs. TLDSB also offers co-op course opportunities to learn alongside local businesses who provide real-world learning experiences.
