On April 24, 2017, TLDSB hosted intermediate Math Olympics at the Muskoka Education Centre in Bracebridge. This event brought 16 schools, 19 teams, and 76 intermediate students together from across the board. Challenges were created for one final team to compete in the Ontario Math Olympiad, hosted by OAME.
Teams participated in Pairs Challenges, Individual Challenges, a Coding Challenge, an FNMI Event, and a Team Relay Challenge. Students worked on Ken Ken puzzles throughout the day, adding sought after points for their team’s final score.
“This year we extended the event to Haliburton schools and next year’s goal will be to provide opportunities for all of our intermediate students across TLDSB to be a part of a school team,” said Kelli Gates, Curriculum Consultant.
Results were as follows:
First Place: Monck Public School
Second Place: Macaulay Public School
Third Place: Spruce Glen Public School
This year’s winning team will be going to Humber College on May 27, 2017 to compete in the Ontario Math Olympiad, where they will compete against grade 7 and 8 students from across Ontario.
