TLDSB Alternate Education and Training Centre student, Austin McGillion, began his co-op placement at Haliburton’s Highlander newspaper last year, and has recently been hired on to continue his popular column, Through My Eyes.
Austin writes about his experiences as a person with Asperger’s Syndrome, explaining how people with autism spectrum disorders perceive the world around them, and how they may behave in various situations.
“Writing helps me forget about bad things that have happened, and it helps me work through things I keep bottled up inside. Writing things out also allows me to vent my anger and frustration without hurting anyone else’s feelings. No one else has to suffer besides my poor keyboard. ” An excerpt from Through my Eyes: My feelings
Austin also writes reviews for movies and video games. His various editorial pieces can be found here.
