LINDSAY, ON – After several productive meetings, Trillium Lakelands District School Board has reached a tentative agreement with CUPE local 997.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) recently reached a provincial agreement with the government. Under the new bargaining legislation, the School Boards’ Collective Bargaining Act, a local agreement must also be negotiated on local conditions.
“On behalf of our members, I am very pleased to have a locally negotiated contract with TLDSB that both respects the work that our members do and the employees that perform that work,” stated CUPE 997 President William Campbell, “We look forward to ratified agreements both with our school board and with the province.”
Custodians, maintenance workers, office-clerical-technical staff members, and educational assistants in TLDSB are all part of CUPE.
“Our support staff members are critical to the work of our school board and have an important impact on student success and well-being,” stated TLDSB Chairperson, Louise Clodd, “I offer my congratulations to both sides who have worked diligently to come to a local agreement.”
Both CUPE 997 and TLDSB are making plans for ratification of the agreement over the coming weeks.
