Northern Lights Leadership

What is Northern Lights Leadership?

The aim of the Northern Lights Leadership Initiative is to enhance students' leadership skills, while experiencing unique challenges and promoting camaraderie and sharing of best practices from amongst student leaders from our entire board.

Northern Lights Leadership Initiative is made possible through the TLDSB Program Enhancement Fund.

Who can participate in Northern Lights Leadership?

All schools within Trillium Lakelands District School Board have the opportunity to select a male and female student from Grade 7 and 10 who are currently displaying aptitude and potential for leadership at the school and community level.

How does Northern Lights Leadership work?

The program is split into two phases:

Phase l

An on-line Blog will be explored by all candidates as they use new technology and software to complete several assignments prior to Phase ll. The focus will be on sharing information with other candidates and investigating their views on leadership and motivating others using the Internet to facilitate communication.

Phase ll

A Leadership Conference at Kinark Outdoor Centre in Minden will take place in  May. This residential experience will have the students and TLDSB staff experiencing and learning through guided activities and challenges. Character development, networking, personal challenges, and discovery will be key components of this phase.
