What is "Service-learning?"

Service-learning is a method of teaching, learning and reflecting that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service. Service-learning opportunities are part of character development in Trillium Lakelands DSB. It is the pairing of experiential teaching methods and community service opportunities in a structured attempt to provide students the chance to work together with others, make a contribution to the world, and develop skills and habits of civility. These may be school-wide or individual class initiatives, short or long-term in duration. They may focus on local, national or global community needs. Examples include the Terry Fox Run, Me to We, Hoops and Jump Rope for Heart, Free the Children fundraising initiatives, and many more.

What service-learning opportunities will my child have?

Opportunities for service learning vary from school to school; however, all schools have made the commitment to be involved at a serious level in some form of service learning. Please speak to your school Principal.
