Former TLDSB student, Matt Duchene was on top of the world yesterday (Feb 23) after his Olympic Gold medal win for Team Canada in men’s hockey. Matt was born in Haliburton, Ontario and grew up playing hockey for the Haliburton Huskies and the Ontario Wolves AAA team in Lindsay. At the age of 16, Matt started playing for the OHL and was soon after drafted for the NHL. He made his debut playing for the Colorado Avalanche on October 1, 2009.

Tweets galore trended throughout the Haliburton community congratulating Matt for winning Olympic Gold at Sochi 2014. Haliburton Highlands Secondary School even shared a photo of their support for Matt before the big game on Friday between Canada and the United States. Haliburton may be small, but it sure is hometown proud! Congratulations Matt!
