A Message from John

I was first elected in 2010 as a Trustee for Wards 2, 3, 6 & 7 within the City of Kawartha Lakes. During that time I served as Vice-Chair of Trillium Lakelands District School Board for 22 months. As your Trustee it is my commitment to work daily for the success of our students, staff, and our board. Malcolm S. Forbes said, “Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with and open one”. It is my job as your Trustee to ensure that TLDSB offers every opportunity to ALL children so that they might feel confident and capable in pursuing their life’s ambitions. All of my grandchildren live within our board. Therefore, I have a vested interest in how well our board performs in educating students.

Background

Prior to retirement John had a successful career with Bell Canada for twenty-eight years (twenty-three of which were in management). While at Bell Canada John held positions of Internal Auditor as well as the Associate Director of Industrial Relations. John is currently a licenced in-car and in-classroom driver educator and has 10 years’ experience as a school bus driver. John has served as a councillor with Somerville Township and was head of the finance committee as well as serving on other committees while on this council.

As a school trustee with TLDSB, it is John’s pleasure to sit on several committees. Committees he currently attends as trustee are:

  • Audit
  • Communication Advisory
  • Staff Recognition – Award of Excellence
  • Health Schools
  • Award Student Success Committee

John has attended several conferences where he has networked with other trustees and educators within the province. However, John finds the most rewarding part of the job is the ability to interact with students of all ages.
