LINDSAY, ON – Every Trillium Lakelands District School Board elementary student will have "the best seat in the house" once sound-field systems are installed in every classroom.
Classroom sound-field systems consist of a small infrared pendent microphone worn around the teacher's neck which then distributes amplified sound through speakers that are installed on classroom ceilings or walls. A handheld microphone can also be used during student discussions to allow students to clearly hear what their classmates are saying.
There is extensive research indicating the benefits from sound-fields in classrooms both for students who may find it difficult to focus, and teachers who often suffer from voice fatigue. A significant number of elementary students suffer from temporary hearing loss due to colds and ear infections.
