Yesterday (April 23, 2014), elementary students from across Trillium Lakelands District School Board travelled to Camp Wanakita in Haliburton to celebrate the 2014 Eco Summit. Students enjoyed a full day of eco-friendly workshops led by Camp Wanakita staff, Fleming College students, Kawartha Conservation, and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH). They even had the opportunity to touch and observe some very unique critters from Zoo to You like an American alligator and a red eyed tree frog.

Numerous environmental stewardship activities were offered to the students including: animal adaptations, critter dip, invasive species, fresh water talk, tree identification, beaver dam hike, Iron Chef, bird feeding, and survival skills. Students learned the importance of preserving our fresh water resources, how to create a strong foundation when building a fire, and the benefits of fair traded goods.
