On February 28, 2017, female students in Grades 9 – 12 were invited to attend the ‘Women in Trades’ event, hosted at Fleming College in Peterborough. The evening ran from 6 – 9 p.m. and included a tour of the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC) at Fleming College in Peterborough, a mentor/panel discussion with women in the trades – Electrician, Automotive Service Technician, Industrial Mechanic Millwright, Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding – and interactive booths to highlight skilled trades and programs available at Fleming College.

One mentor was Pauline Carkner, a graduate of IEW, who is currently working as a qualified electrician with Hydro. Events like this help to highlight and expand student’s knowledge on trades as a viable career path, not just for men, but for women as well.
