On May 8, 2015, Trillium Lakelands District School Board hosted the fourth annual LGBTQ Youth and Allies conference, A Great Day to Be Out, at Bark Lake. Gay Straight Alliances (GSA) are student-led groups that provide lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirited, queer, and questioning youth and their allies a safe space where they can work together on making their schools more welcoming for all community members regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
The conference hosted variety of workshops including self-acceptance and loving yourself, strengthening your GSA, self-expression through drama sessions, and fun activities like fire starting and archery. These workshops will ensure that all TLDSB students feel safe and supported throughout their high school experience. Special guests also hosted workshops and shared personal perspectives with students.
