MELD is a joint initiative between Trillium Lakelands District School Board and Nipissing University. Students will complete a two-week residential program, during which they can earn two credits. One of these is a Senior Social Sciences credit towards their high school diploma, and the other is a Nipissing University credit for a course called University Success. The program runs from July 7-20th 2013, at Nipissing University’s campus in North Bay.
This incredibly unique experience is designed to give students hands-on leadership experiences. Each student will advance the leadership skills he/she already possesses, practicing as peers and within the community. Some of the many activities include: team building, high-ropes challenges, zip lining, community involvement, and amazing guest speakers. All of this learning will be enhanced by the integration of iPad technology throughout the course. Students benefit from being immersed in the Nipissing University setting, where they have access to the resources, people and facilities of its welcoming University community.
Graduates of the MELD program express overwhelmingly positive feedback about the program. One student wrote, ““I had so much fun and I learned so much, I can't even describe it. I am comfortable to say that it was the best two weeks of my life so far.”
