On November 12 and 13, 2014, Macaulay Public School hosted a Rice Krispies sale to support grade three student, Rylie, and also SickKids Foundation in Toronto. Rylie was a liver transplant recipient at the age of 10 months, and is currently a healthy child who takes part in all aspects of school life. His goal was to raise money to attend SickKids Angels’ Catwalk in Toronto on Thursday, November 20, 2014.

Rylie developed a speech to present at his school assembly and his mom – also his liver donor – attended too.  A group of students at Macaulay PS, known to support positive interactions (called the ‘Circle of Peace’), helped sell the squares with Rylie.  Parents and staff members also pitched in to make Rice Krispie Squares for the cause.

In total, the school was able to raise over $400 for Rylie, who will be attending the event today and walking down the runway with his mom. Rylie and his mother have raised over $1,100 with the help of family, friends and Macaulay PS.

The funds raised for the donor team catwalk will go to a research project that looks at the long term consequences of solid organ transplants in children.  The goal is to improve long term outcomes in pediatric patients.

Another day at TLDSB schools, where kindness grows kindness!
