It’s a special occasion once a month at William Place in Lindsay, when grade 4/5 students from Alexandra Public School pair up with residents for a fun-filled afternoon. It’s a partnership that started in 2014-15 and has proved to be beneficial for students and residents alike.
The class tries to do something different each time with their new friends. The first get together involved an activity related to their childhood to help build relationships. Student brought something that was a special memory for them, and made a list of questions to ask residents. Since then the students have enjoyed playing cards, building puzzles, making Valentines Day messages, and baking banana bread muffins to bring to the residents.
Events like this help TLDSB students to learn that they’re a part of a bigger community, and to value all members. It really helps to develop sense of citizenship. See pictures from the event below!
