1 in 5 Symposium Continues to Educate Youth about Mental Health

Over 450 students from TLDSB schools participated and learned about Mental Health during the 1 in 5 Mental Health Symposium on Friday, May 1, 2015. Huntsville High School, Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School (BMLSS) as well as Gravenhurst High School participated in the symposium, which is in its second year.

The day kicked off with a presentation and keynote address in partnership with the Mental Health Commission of Canada. Following the presentation, students were encouraged to visit a number of workshops which were scattered throughout BMLSS.

Activities included Drum Fit, Mindful Martial Arts, Constructive ‘Rants’, Art Therapy and Music Therapy. Students also learned about the power of positivity, nutrition and wellness, living a healthy lifestyle, coping with stress and stress reduction techniques, wellness and addiction, and many other topics.
